Week of Oct. 19 - 23

 Alberta Regions Research

This week, in Social Studies, students read for information from our text, Voices of Alberta and searched for facts online to research  one of the regions of Alberta.  The facts they have gathered will be used to write a descriptive paragraph about one of the regions next week.

Multiplication

In math, students have also been reviewing how to represent multiplication in a variety of ways.

We discussed how different models of multiplication are used for different purposes in real life. Flexibility with a variety of ways to represent the concept of multiplication can make solving real life math problems easier.

Science

Students learned about convex and concave lenses and did an experiment with prisms to see how white light breaks up into the colours of the rainbow.

Writing

We have printed out our letters about the Alberta Parks issue to our MLA and will be sending them to Sonya Savage this week.

Landscape Artist's Statement

Students printed out their artist's statement to be displayed with their artwork.  They reflected on the process of making their oil pastel landscape paintings.
