Our First Coulee Walk

September has been a week of getting into new routines, getting to know each other and lots of learning!  One of our favourite days so far has been our first walk to the Coulee together....

"We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Nations, which includes the Siksika (Seeg-see-gah), the Piikani (Bee-gah-nee), and the Kainai (Guy-nah). We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina (Soot—tenna) and Stoney Nakoda (Na-ko-da) First Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. "

Coulee Artwork and Mindful Moment

After learning about Leonardo Da Vinci's amazing habits of thinking, observing and sketching, students were asked to take a photo of the beautiful landscape that would be used to create sketches and artwork back in class.

They also spent time in their "observation stations" using their five senses to describe  and sketch what they noticed.  We have begun a daily practice of Mindfulness and students were excited to write about a "Mindful Moment" in the Coulee which is now typed up in their Virtual Visual Journals in Google Slides. Students will be sharing these guided visualizations with classmates in the near future.
